Telugu Wedding Photography Shoots

The Telugu wedding ceremony is the traditional wedding performed by the Telugu people in India. Up to the 19th century Telugu wedding ceremony will be celebrated for up to 16 days, but in recent times is a celebration of 2 or more days based on the family tradition and financial status.

It’s unable to image a Telugu bride without a Tender Coconut in her hands on her D-Day. In the Telugu language, Tender Coconut is referred to as ‘Kobbari bondam’. The reason behind the bride caring for Kobbari Bondam to the wedding is, she literally brings the blessing of the lord along with her to the wedding mandapam.

Wedding Rituals:

Ganapathy Pooja:

On the wedding day, the groom is one who enters the Mandapam / Marriage Venue before the bride. On entrance, the groom is received by the bride’s maternal uncle and brother leading him to the marriage stage.

As Load Ganapathy is considered Prathama Vandana, the first salutation is for load Ganesh and he considers as lord one who removed all the obstacles and blesses the celebration in a very smooth manner. After this bride enters the stage with all her family members with a coconut in her hand.

A Terasala (Tera Means Screen) or cloth is held between the bride and groom by the maternal uncles of the bride. It’s believed the bride and groom are not supposed to see each other till the wedding ceremony.

Kanyadanam and Panigrahanam:

Officially giving the bride’s hand to the groom by the bride’s parents is referred to as Kanyadanam. In this ceremony, the groom is symbolically considered Lord Vishu, and the bride is considered Goddess Laxmi. The parents of the bride placing her hands on the groom’s hand are known as Panigrahanam and by taking the bride’s hands from her parents he promised to take care of her and give her all the happiness for the rest of her life.

Talambralu:

This ritual is more like a fun game , where the bride and groom pour rice on each other, where the first three times are important, after that family too gets involved among the couple who put more rice on each other. After this, the bride and groom exchange garland with each other to accept each other as their sole mate, and this is referred to as ‘Dandalu’.

Jeelakara Bellam:

Jeelakara Bellam is the most important ritual in the wedding ceremony, as the bride and groom pound, a paste made of cumin and jaggery on the head signifying that their body, mind, and soul are inseparable. When the bride and groom pouches on their head and Terasala is removed in between them. The friends and family gather in the wedding hall and sprinkle akshantalu over the bride and groom.

Mangalsutram Dharana:

After the jeelakaa Bellam the bride and groom are asked to change their attire to madhuparakam. In the meantime, the pandit places the mangalasutram on the coconut to get the blessing for all the couple’s well-wishers. The mangalsutram is two gold pendants in sacred yellow thread. When the bride and groom arrive the groom ties three knots to the bride’s neck.

Metalu and Nalla Pusalu:

Based on the family tradition a silver toe ring is adorned on the bride’s second toe on both her legs by the bride’s maternal uncle or the groom himself. Then the groom adorns the bride with a chine or necklace made of gold and black beads as it averts evil eye.

Saptapadi:

Saptapadi means seven steps vows taken by both bride and groom of promising each other for being together in both joy and sorrow, strength and weakness as well as wealth. In this groom goes first for 3 rounds and other 4 rounds the bride goes first and is done around the holy fire.

After this gold ring and silver ring are dropped in the turmeric water, where the couple leaves their hands to find that. It’s played 3 times and whoever takes the gold ring 2 times is the winner. This is more like a fun game between both the bride and groom’s families.

Arundhati Nakshtram and Appagintalu:

All a fun-filled game the bride and groom are taken out to see the Arundhati nakshatra as it represents the ideal couple. The most emotional time and part of the wedding is the bride saying bye to her maternal home and leaving her husband’s home.
